What We Treat

Hyperpigmentation

Melanin, in moderation, is beneficial to you for a certain amount of UV radiation protection. Melanocytes produce melanin, and we all have the same amount of melanocytes regardless of ethnicity. The amount of melanin produced by the melanocytes defines your skin’s phototype. However, when there is an excess of melanin production, it becomes a pathological process known as hyperpigmentation.

Hyperpigmentation, such as melasma/chloasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and photoaging/sun damage, are common and very complex conditions that have been notoriously difficult to treat. Hyperpigmentation dark spots are a common skin condition affecting all age groups, skin tone and gender. Though it is more common in women over thirty, Fitzpatrick Skin Type IV, V and VI. Sun exposure, hormonal changes, inflammation, genetics and ageing cause hyperpigmentation. Hyperpigmentation can be a persistent issue that affects both appearance and confidence.
